Here are some kitchen gadgets I love:

The NutriBullet is a must-have for any smoothie lover! This model has a high-torque power base and 600-watt motor that effortlessly pulverizes fruits, vegetables and superfoods for nutritious protein shakes and green smoothies. This bundle includes 1 tall cup, 2 short cups, 1 flat blade, 1 emulsifying blade, 2 resealable lids, and a manual with recipes. It comes with a 1-year warranty.

This Cuisinart stick blender can purée, chop, grind, and whip up goodies with ease. It has two speeds and comes with a 2-cup mixing beaker, a chopper/grinder attachment, a whisk attachment, and a stainless steel blending attachment. It's backed by a 3-year warranty.

This food processor is the cream of the crop. With the 11-cup work bowl, wide mouth feed tube and dishwasher safe parts, it's easier to use and clean than its competition. It comes with a stainless steel medium slicing disc, stainless steel shredding disc, and blade that can be used for chopping/mixing/kneading, as well as a spatula and recipe/instruction book. I love mine and can't imagine cooking without it!

This 6-quart stainless steel Crock-Pot slow-cooker is programmable from 30 minutes to 20 hours with a digital timer. It features an easy-to-use locking lid that seals for less mess on-the-go, and a removable stone insert that may be used in the microwave or oven set up to 400° Fahrenheit. If I had to grab one kitchen gadget in a fire, this would be it!

The Instant Pot DUO is a "smart" electric pressure cooker that is both convenient and dependable. It dramatically speeds up cooking time and uses 70% less energy. It will become your favorite kitchen gadget -- it's a work horse, serving as a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, steamer, yogurt maker and warmer. Heck, it also sautés and sears. No kitchen skills required -- anyone can cook family-favorite dishes with the press of a button.

Here are some books & cookbooks I find valuable:

The Anti-Anxiety Food Solution: How the Foods You Eat Can Help You Calm Your Anxious Mind, Improve Your Mood and End Cravings (2011), by Trudy Scott, CN, provides easy to understand recommendations to help repair biochemistry, balance neurotransmitters and nourish the body. Scott clearly explains how real, whole, good-quality food can positively impact brain chemistry and emotions.

The Everything Parent's Guide to Overcoming Childhood Anxiety: Professional Advice to Help Your Child Feel Confident, Resilient, and Secure (2014), by Sherianna Boyle, MEd, CAGS, offers a hopeful outlook and expert advice on the following:
  • Determining the causes and triggers of your child's anxiety.
  • Understanding the difference between self-control and self-regulation.
  • Finding the right treatments, including complementary approaches like nutrition, integrated therapy and self-care.
  • Educating and working with teachers and school officials.
  • Assisting your child to create a confident, promising future.

After years of research and time working with children and their parents, Dr. Dina Rose discovered that when parents focus solely on nutrition, their kids actually eat poorly. In the incredible book, It's Not About The Broccoli (2014), Dr. Rose arms you with the tools you need to teach your children how to eat "well." She shifts the focus from nutrition to behavior, and delves into three habits -- proportion, variety and moderation. You kiddos will end up with the skills they need for a lifetime of health and vitality. I'd say that's a win-win.

In The Orchid and the Dandelion (2019), Dr. Tom Boyce explores the "dandelion" child (hardy, resilient, healthy), able to survive and flourish under most circumstances, and the "orchid" child (sensitive, susceptible, fragile), who, given the right support, can thrive as much as, if not more than, other children. Orchid children, Boyce makes clear, are not failed dandelions; they are a different category of child, with special sensitivities and strengths, and need to be nurtured and taught in special ways. He shows us how to understand these children for their unique sensibilities, their considerable challenges, and their remarkable gifts.

The Paleo Approach (2014), by Dr. Sarah Ballantyne, is the first book to explain how to adapt the Paleo diet to bring about a full recovery from autoimmune disease. Dr. Ballantyne will help you discover what you can (and shouldn’t) eat to calm your immune system, reduce inflammation, and help your body heal itself. Though targeted to those with an autoimmune condition, the principles she lays out for her reader can be used by anyone who wants to feel their best.

Digestive Wellness: Strengthen the Immune System and Prevent Disease Through Healthy Digestion (2011), by Elizabeth Lipski, Ph.D, CCN, CHN, explains how the digestive system works and what to do when it doesn’t. It includes practical solutions to common gastrointestinal disorders (and many other conditions) and expert guidance on the newest advances in testing and diagnosis, nutrition and natural therapies.

Nourishing Traditions: The Cookbook that Challenges Politically Correct Nutrition and Diet Dictocrats (2001), by Sally Fallon, is a well-researched, thought-provoking guide to traditional foods. In addition to delicious recipes, it includes a wealth of health-related information.

The Nourishing Traditions Book of Baby and Child Care (2013), by Sally Fallon Morell and Thomas Cowan, M.D, provides holistic advice for pregnancy, newborn interventions, vaccinations, breastfeeding and child development, as well as a collection of natural treatments for childhood illnesses. Every page is packed with well-written and engaging information, studies, suggestions and how-tos.

Gut and Psychology Syndrome: Natural Treatment for Autism, Dyspraxia, A.D.D., Dyslexia, A.D.H.D., Depression and Schizophrenia (2010), by Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride, MD, explains the importance of healthy GI function as it relates to overall health and well-being. It's full of valuable and interesting facts and clearly lays out the GAPS diet, which was designed to heal and seal the digestive tract and remove toxicity in the body through the elimination of grains, processed foods and refined sugars. Be forewarned, however, it's very technical and may feel like homework, but is well worth the read.

The Heal Your Gut Cookbook: Nutrient-Dense Recipes for Intestinal Health Using the GAPS Diet (2014), by Hilary Boynton and Mary G. Brackett, was created by GAPS Diet experts to help heal the gut and manage the illnesses that stem from it. It includes more than 200 easy and delicious recipes and explains the key cooking techniques and ingredients that form the backbone of the GAPS Diet: bone broths, cultured raw dairy, and soaked nuts and seeds. It's a must-have if you are following the GAPS Diet, considering the GAPS Diet or simply looking to improve your digestive health and, by extension, your physical and mental well-being.

Paleo Cooking from Elana's Pantry: Gluten-Free, Grain-Free, Dairy-Free Recipes (2013), by Elana Amsterdam, offers streamlined techniques and recipes with minimal ingredients for busy cooks on the run. Elana includes 100 simple, classic, family-favorite recipes that feature the Paleo mainstays of lean proteins and simple vegetable dishes, plus wholesome sweet treats--all free from grains, gluten, dairy, sugar and artificial sweeteners.

Pure Food: A Chef's Handbook for Eating Clean, with Healthy, Delicious Recipes (2016), by Kurt Beecher Dammeier, is a pleasure to read. It's part handbook and part cookbook, and contains more than 70 delicious and natural recipes for pure living. It will change how you approach food and help lead you down the path to a healthier life.
